I just bought two kuhli loaches, and the guy at the store, have me some snails, and some green pellets. He said they will eat the snails, and if i stick the pellets to the ground, they will eat them, when i put the pellets in there long enough, they start breaking apart, are they eating this in the water, are they even eating any food? help please.

Feeding the kuhli loach poses no problems. They are very adept at locating bits of food in an aquarium, and are often included in an aquarium to ensure that there is no buildup of uneaten foods under rocks or wood.
They eat prepared flakes, freeze-dried foods and any small live foods that settle to the bottom, but have a real fondness for small worms, such as grindal worms, white worms or Tubifex. It is important to limit the amount of worms in their diets because worms are a rich, fat-filled food, and a balanced diet is much better for the fish.
The last item worth mentioning is that all "kuhli" loaches aren't necessarily real kuhli loaches. There are a number of very similar species in the genus Acanthophthalmus. The real kuhli loach, Acanthophthalmus kuhlii, is a 3˝-inch fish from Indonesia, Sumatra, Java, Malaya and Thailand. It has 15 to 20 dark bars on its flanks that almost circle the body, but stop at the belly. There are two subspecies (maybe three) that have variations in the length of the bars and narrow bands within the bars.

Kuhli loaches do not eat snails. They are mostly bottom feeders and partly scavengers. The loaches that eat snails are the clown loaches, skunk loaches, yoyo loaches and other fish shaped loaches and botias.
The kuhlis are snaky looking fish and get along with other fish quite well. They do a lot of hiding and typically feed at night when you don't see them. Kuhlis stay small and have small mouths. So they won't eat the pellets until they soften and break apart.
The guy at the store was just getting rid of some snails as you will be soon. Snails breed like rabbits and will overrun your tank in short order. If you need a fish to eat snails, get 4-5 of the yoyo loaches or clown loaches. Be advised though, the clowns are very susceptible to ich and very touchy with the medication for ich.

Khuli loaches are bottom feeders. They can eat pretty much any type of sinking fish food. Remember that their stomachs are tiny, about the size of their eyes, so one pellet is probably plenty for 2 of them. You can try feeding them 1 pellet twice a day and see how they do. If you want to try 2 pellets, just watch to make sure they're actually eating it. Uneaten food will break down and start raising the ammonia levels in your tank.
If you want to see your khuli loaches really active, make sure you have at least 3 and get an air stone. A lot of these guys seem to like playing in the bubbles. They're less shy in groups of 3 or more.

the green pellets he gave you are probally algea wafers, yes they fall appart and make a mess if they're in there too long, i hate them, there is a small chance they are scavenging some of this or other food from the bottem of the tank. as for why he gave you snails i dont know. i certainly hope he didnt give you those tiny wild snails b/c those reproduce like wild fire and are nearly imposiable to get rid of. where i work we feed kuhlis sinking shrimp pellets (just a few or they will mold) and frozen blood worms. good luck and have fun

I have a loach and snails, so far all still alive... I would buy some sinking pellets like the ones for alge eaters. It seems like mines not eating too (they are nocturnal) but he keeps growing and is active in the evening.

This is what I have done with mine, I don't feed them!
They usually dig in the gravel and eat all the extra food from feeding your fish.
If you're feeding pellets only to your betta, you might want to throw in some flakes in the bottom of tank every night or get a very very small tablet.
