Any suggestions? He's very independant and is generally a happy guy but this has just started recently?

Ah.... the good old back arch. My kids did it too. They especially hated getting into the car seat. My solution was to tickle them. It worked every time. They thought they were having fun with mommy and then "click" they were in the seat. Just don't wait too long to the point that he are really mad to start tickling or it could backfire because he are so worked up

My son who is almost 9 months old, is the exact same way. He is Mr. Independant, and if he wants down if we're holding him, he'll arche back some. He started doing this more when he realized he can do more stuff if we're not holding him. He's crawling for about 1.5 months, and I notives it around then. I see him do it at daycare too if he wants to go and play with the others.

Just make sure to hold him so he doesn't actually flip back and fall out of your arms. Eight months is too young to discipline him and he's not actually doing anything wrong. That or if it's something he doesn't really have to do then don't make him.

My daughter understands no. So I firmly tell her no. She understands by the tone of my voice and facial expressions I want her to stop. Then there's other times when she just doesn't care. If you figure out a way to stop her when no doesn't work let me know.

its normal it will pass... my daughter did it when she was a baby... now my son who is 10 1/2 months, does that all the time... its very normal... babies grow out of it later... and then they just start telling you NO!!!

That is completely normal. He may be trying to protect himself by leaning away. Or maybe his back is flexible, if that is the reason ask a doctor.

That is his way of showing his temper- it will not hurt him at all- just don't let him get out of your arms and fall if you are holding him=D
