find it absolutely ridiculous that at the end Wolverine chose to KILL Jean rather than have a shot of "cure" for her? WTH wrote this CRAP? I get that she needed to be "fixed," but *surely,* with ALLLLLLLLL the mutant powers behind them, they could have found an alternate way to "fix" her? Even freeze her until someone powerful enough to do what Xavier had done (separating the two parts of her) could perfect their skill?

He KILLED HER????? I'm SO p!ssed off. Seriously. I got it off pay-per-view and figured I'd put it on DVD tomorrow. But HELL no. I won't even be watching the OTHER ones again because I'm SOOOOO P!SSED OFF!

Anyone else think a) the ending was tooooo dramatic and b) it was a COP OUT????

Or does anyone have an explanation as to WHY they chose this ending?

GRRRRRR.

Transfat - oh, excuse me for caring about a movie. Pardon me if sometimes, just *sometimes* I want to escape the "real world" and watch something that I can feel good about - you know, where the good guys win and all is well in the end.

Viewaskew - I'm not sure what to think about Scott - and Xavier is not dead, apparently. As I wrote this, the credits were rolling, and after the credits, there's a quick quick scene where someone's in a hospital bed and a nurse (doctor?) comes in and says, "Good morning." The patient says, "Hello, Moira." She looks shocked and says in a quivering voice, "Charles." So Xavier isn't dead, which leaves it open for Scott to be alive, I suppose. Also, Magneto, at the end, is playing chess alone. Before he touches a piece, it shakes a bit. I'm thinking that it wasn't a permanent cure, but rather a temporary fix. Maybe Jean will come back with her Phoenix abilities and Mystique will come back? I just don't know if I'd watch it or not LOL!

Luken - interesting take - but if that were the case, why didn't Phoenix just protect herself from what she knew would be death in the form of Wolverine's knives? She can withstand the cure but not a knife to the stomach? Her powers seemed almost limitless. I would be surprised to think that with all that she could do, surviving a knife would be impossible.

I agree, it was a cop out! The movie was lame because it introduced too many unnecessary characters. They should have focused on the main ones from the previous films. Cyclops was made to look like a wimp, and they killed him off screen - how pathetic! I hate that they removed Mystique from the picture so early on - she is an awesome character. The scenes with Magneto were excellent, but Jean (Phoenix) just stood by doing nothing for most of the film. It could have been much better!

Apparently you are not familiar with the Xmen saga outside of the movies. The only reason that Wolverine got close enough to Jean was because of his regenerative powers. His clothes would have been totally ripped off his body except for the G rating of the movie. I doubt Jean would have allowed Wolverine to come close enough with the "cure" if he had it on him. The conflict between good Jean and bad Jean was the reason that Wolverine came close enough to do anything in the first place. There was a part of Jean that knew what needed to be done in order to make the world safe, and having her live was not one of them.

In the comic book, Dark Pheonix was also killed after blowing up the sun in a faraway Solar system destroying a planted and all its inhabitants....Mass murder on the grandest of scale. It was not until after her demise they brought the old Jean back. Jean's body was in a cave in suspended animation forced on her by the Dark Pheonix. She was not freed until the Dark Pheonix met her end and had lost her hold on her. The writers were trying to keep the readers guessing as to what will happen next. They took every liberty possible like in the soap operas but had the extra flare of sci-fi and mutants, and the miricle exemption clause that goes with all super heros. In an attempt to keep the readers from getting bored with the characters, some of the Xmen were killed off. Even Wolverine met an untimely death at the hands of Magneto.

The movie was staying true to the feeling of the Xmen saga. After the credits, Xavier returns in the body of the comatose victim that was part of the ethics class at the begining of the movie when he posed the question if it was moral for someone else to inhabit the body of a brain dead person. This could be due that Patrick Stewart may be wanting to retire from the role of Xavier. Wither or not Xavier will no longer need the wheel chair will be one of the questions that might be addressed in the seaqule. It could be prequel and we find out how Xavier lost the use of his legs. The options are still many.

I had a lot of problems with this movie for a lot of reasons. Professor X is killed? Scott is killed? They never died like that in the comics. Even Jean is still alive and kicking. Bobby was never a teenager! He was one of the first mutants at the school and so was Angel. I could deal with the first two movies. I liked them and found them to be entertaining. But, I think bringing in that new director shot the movie off in a bad direction. How can we have a fourth movie without three of the main characters?

You're right it did seem like this was not thought out very well.Supposedly there are alternate endings but I haven't watched them yet.One possible explanation would be that even if they had given her the "cure" is that maybe she would never be able to get over the pain of having killed her boyfreind Cyclops and Professor X.Just a Thought .

As I understand it, Gene's mind and body were taken over by Phoenix, who was so powerful that she could have taken the "cure" and not have been effected. And the professor was the only one who could seperate the two parts of her (I believe). So the only way to stop her was to kill her. (That's just my take on this).

I was more disappointed that Xavier died than anything else, but death is seldom permanent.

i heard somewhere that there was a scene deleted from the film in which at the end everyone in the mansion hears something and they focus on jeans grave and its been blown up and there's fire everywhere and her body's gone, so i guess he didnt really "kill her", and come on, does jean ever really die? i mean they've killed her what, like 15 times in the comics and she just keeps coming back, the whole "phoenix" thing and such. so i really dont think we have anything to worry about, if they make a 4th, i think she scoming back.

Watch it till the end of the credits. There's a small scene that gives us a glimmer of hope that Xavier is still alive.

Just setting the stage for X-men four. You are investing far to much emotion in this stupid movie. It is as the rest of the series, flashy explodey action movies. Try not to over think it.
