Everyone seems to forget a rather short-lived series called "Top of the Heap". It was supposed to have been a spin-off of "Married With Children"

It starred Joseph Bologna as Charlie Verducci, and Matt Leblanc as his son, Vinnie. The show was then "retooled" and was then called "Vinnie and Bobby". It didn't last either.

there was "Welcome Back Kotter" with John Travolta as Vinnie Barberino (i think it was is name) but assuming your too young to have heard of it, i believe you're thinking about "Doogie Howser, md" in the late 80's. The main caracter, Doogie who was a young doctor (i think he was supposed to be around 12-16), as a friend Vinnie Delpino (Max Casella) who was the same age and was thinking only to date girls. Vinnie was italian.

Welcome Back Cotter. A man returns to his high school to teach the "Sweathogs", the dummies of the school. Vinnie the Italian is played by John Travolta, who played in a few movies later in his career. Not sure what he's doing now as I am not a movie fan at all.

"Welcome Back Kotter," which had a very young John Travolta playing Vinnie Barbarino. He was one of the problem teens in the NYC school and their group was called the Sweeathogs. Made him an overnight sensation!
