Well that depends on the State, but generally since 9-11 there are new laws on the books that are really crazy. The one you're referring to is "Making Terrorist Threats." More importantly saying, "I'm going to kill you!" What's worse is calling the cops. It sounds like things with your friends got out of control and the responding Officers believed either she was in danger, evidence of bodily harm, or they were just taking him away. This part will blow your mind. Often times, Terrorist Threats here in CA carry a bail amount anywhere from $210,000 to 500,000 to get out of jail.
The boyfriend will be probably charged, and proceed to the arraignment. At this point, he could ask his counsel about a reduction in bail and maybe he can get out. If not, he could be there a very long time.

no time at all ,people say this all the time .
when you actually threaten somebody with a gun or a spear,or a club or a sword ,maybe a flower if it is a dried sunflower ,then it is a different matter and you could go to jails ,for how long depends on the judge and the location

Chances are if they even do anything...he may only be questioned and released. If she feels threatened by him..she can get a restraining order on him and if he comes in contact with her he will go to jail. The best thing to do is stay away from him..If he stalkes her..she can call police again..pretty soon he will get the message to saty away or go to jail

Probably not very long. That is not a very serious crime. Now, if he hit her or something then he might spend some time in jail. But, for just saying that is only a misdomenor. Your friend should probably put a protective order against him.

That would be considered terroristic threatening third degree in Kentucky. It carries a maximum penalty of one year in the county jail.
Of course it would vary from state to state.

It could be construed as a terrorist threat and it is also domestic violence.
You need to check the laws for your particular state.
In some states, all the victim has to say is that they are in fear, and that is enough reason for police to take the suspect in custody.

its according to how serious the threat is.. they call it 'terrorist threats' now....if the guys had cops called on him lots of times, the cops will take it more seriously...tell your friend to get the hell away from this guy....she can take out a restraining order on him, that way if he calls or goes near her, the cops WILL take him to jail....but tell her to get away from him....no good can come from a guy like that

That depends entirely upon where you live...
what country
what state
what city
In some countries, once arrested for making threats,
you might just dissappear for good.

generally when a person files charges goes before a judge and timeframe is decided according to the crime .....
to make such a statement is not something that should be easily ignored or discarded
