My daughter has a good friend whose "father" is a homeless person and has nothing to do with the boy (16). I suspect he is actually the son a former bf that I lived with for 5 years because I see the resemblance and that bf told me he "thought" he had slept with the mother (while drunk) when his gf (at the time) was pregnant. The time frame is correct for this boy to be his son. I know if this man knew he was the father he'd "be there" for him like his "dad" wasn't because he now has a relationship with his first son from when he was 16. The mother of this kid is totally "not there" and I feel kind of bad for him. My ex boyfriend is a great guy as a friend and a father, but just not as a boyfriend. What do you think is the right thing to do?

Yes, I'd say something.... to the suspected father.
Infact, Mom, I did.
But I wouldn't say anything to the child.
He has too much to worry about already.
If and when the suspected father comes back to town he can deal with it in which way he'd like. I'd certainly want him to get the kid involved then, and take a DNA test.
If the test proved they were father and son.... omg...just nvm..I'd be shocked! (after all he is a close friend of mine)

Tell the person you suspect is the real father, and talk to him to talk to her mother about testing to determine if it's true. If I was the kid I would wish to have a father who is there for me. It's a chance worth taking, you could change the child's life for the better, although he might struggle a bit at first from finding out the truth, he might have a better father figure.

i would probably get involved. that is a hard thing to deal with but a fatherless boy is a lonely boy. and who knows maybe your ex might have a reason to get off the streets. i hope all this works out and i hope the boy is his son. good luck!

Tell what you know and put the two of them in contact with each other. They can take it from there. You could change his life for the better, or forever.

Yes I would. If this is his father I think they have a right to know each other.

I would not say anything. What if you are wrong? What would happen then? Ann Landers always told people to MYOB.
