I agree with you that there should be a balance.
Children need to be able to express their selves and their feeling's, but they need to do it in a respectful way. I think my husband and I are doing a good job of installing that in our children, and I only hope it stays with them throughout their life!

Strictly. My youngest nephew grew up with no discipline and I can't stand the way he behaves. He cusses all the time, he thinks that he's the boss over everybody. I can't stand that. The other kids were raised more strictly than he was and they are so much more fun to be around.

Liberally. The schools already fill their heads with nonsense horror stories like "If you suspect that your parent has consumed even one drop of an alcoholic beverage you MUST call the police and report them as child molesters."
Kids gotta have fun.

I think you need structure and guidelines with enough room for free will and thinking. As long as your child trusts you with their well being, they should grow up to be a secure, independent productive member of society..... a happy medium.

I don't think I could pick one or the other, it takes being strict, liberal, and alot of other things to raise a child.

a little bit of both, I believe...
strictly in the sense that they will know their limitations, liberally in the sense that they will enjoy their childhood ;-)

alittle strictness is necessary, just dont go overboard with it,they are just children who are going to misbehave because its their nature. I had alittle of both growing up.
