No, it's not. If it's been in your freezer unwrapped and in it's original plastic coating, my suggestion is to throw it away and buy a new one. Even cooked and frozen turkey after a year will probably be freezer burned adn won't taste good. Buy a new one. Good luck.
(after 26 years of marriage and many many thanksgiving turkeys...please don't cook that old bird)

If you haven't had a power outage or any chance that the turkey could have thawed, yes, it's probably okay; however, there is a chance it might have freezer burn, and it certainly won't taste good. Since Thanksgiving is a huge food day for us to show off our culinary skills to friends and family, I personally always get a fresh turkey from the store. I limit frozen food use to 6 months.

Our family has a freezer that is set at the coldest setting and we have eaten turkey that has been frozen for over a year inside of it, with no ill affects.
However, if you thaw it out before you cook it, use the smell test.
If there is any hint of a rancid smell I'd throw it out.
If it smells good wash it completely before you cook it and then bake on a low heat {325} completely wrapped in foil until the meat is so soft it will separate from the bone.
Over cooking will kill any harmful bacteria. We baste our turkey with Honey which also acts as a bacteria killing agent.
Good Luck!

I just asked my butcher this questions. I have a frozen one in my freezer. He said it should be fine. However, needs to be checked for freezer burn. I typically get more than one turkey a year from my job and my husbands, so we always have too many and then I save one for the next year and eat one right away. We always get the frozen ones, never fresh, also.
Hope this helps.

I don't think you can keep a frozen turkey for a full year. Even if you could, I can't imagine how it would taste. Freezer burn is inevitable, and you can smell it before you see it.
Go ahead and spend the extra $$ for your guests...buy another one, and throw the frozen one in the garbage.

If you haven't killed it yet, then by all means, do the dirty work and cook that bird. If however this bird has been frozen rock solid in the bottom of your body size chest freezer, toss it and buy a new one.
