One night around 4:30 am, I woke up to see a tall figure standing next to the side of my bed dressed in a long white robe with a type of blue tie around its neck hanging down, that just stood there very still, and I turned to see where my German Shepherd was, and he was laying at the bottom of the be sound asleep on his back to no clue to what was there. I looked back beside my bed, and it was STILL standing there, by this time, I was certainly scared, but couldnt take my eyes off of it. Finally, after another couple of minutes, it moved slowly off toward my lamp by the wall, and suddenly just dissapeared into thin air before my eyes. What could this have been? And I wasnt drinking, I was dead sober! Help!

You most likely had a visit from a benign spirit. My question is has this or a similar incident ever happen to you before. Even if it was in a dream. Also I need to know what did you smell while he was standing there, were you able to see thru him at any time. Also did light reflect off of him. Before I can go further I need the answers to my questions. and if you want privacy I can be reached at marks4460@mypacks.net But please let me know.

You saw a halucination of some sort. You don't need to have been drinking to see halucinations. Nor taking drugs. Your dog was sleeping peacefully because there was nothing there.
What many people think of as proof that ghosts and angels exist is merely something they've experienced but can't explain in any other way than saying that it was a ghost or an angel.
People who are unable to sleep for several days because of an illness, for example, might hallucinate and "see" dead relatives while he is still awake. A person who didn't know it was the brain taking time out to "dream" while awake might believe that his dead relatives came back as angels or guardians to comfort him in his illness.
Photographs of ghosts (orbs, etc.) are little more than way-out-of-focus specks of dust or other airborne particles too close to the flash and lens of the camera.
Still other photographs are merely misuse of the camera. A shaky hand can cause blurs. A person who doesn't know how to properly use the "night portait" setting on a camera might see "energy" from distant lights.
When people visit a "haunted house" they've usually been told what "ghost" is there and where. That biases the visitor--even subconciously--and the visitor will then "feel" something.
John Edward and other "psychics" who claim to talk to the dead are only skilled in an art called "Cold Reading". A major factor in a successful "Cold Reading" is the psychic tossing out very vague references ("I'm seeing water.") and the person being "read" only remembering the "hits"--the vague references the psychic got right--and forgetting the "misses".
There is always an explaination to a "ghostly" or "angelic" experience. It's just that the person who experienced it may not know what it is other than to believe it was a ghost or an angel.

The apparition you saw was an example of the half awake, half asleep syndrome. You were dreaming of the future. The long white robe is depicted as a sign that you beleive in God, and the blue tie is a sign that you miss your father. Please, if you have these visions again, see a clergyman and talk openly about your dreams. The Bible says young men and women will, in the last days see visions, and dream dreams. You are very fortunate to have seen your servant on earth, a guardian angel! Do not be afraid. Next time ask the angel about what He would like you to learn about God, and what he would like you to do.

It was a angel. It was in a white, not black clothes. Evil spirit or demons are in black. A good spirit is in white but and angel, maybe your guardian angel, they wear robes like a priest or religious person. And the fact that your dog slept through it all verifies that it was an angel Animals are very sensitive and can see spirits and will react(bark etc.) if it was a evil spirit. Even if it was a relative, your dog would still react. So, you have an angel watching over you.

Depending upon your personal beliefs what you saw will be interpreted differently by different people. My own beliefs handed down through many generations is that what you saw was one of two things. A familiar spirit or an angel. Your dogs behavior suggests that it was an angel. A familiar spirit would have upset your German shepherd greatly. The angel would not upset your dog. I was taught as a child that dogs see spirits and react to them aggressively if it is an evil spirit and calmly if it is an angel.

Have you done anything really bad to another person recently? A spectre like that often appears to torment those who have wronged others. If not, it could be a ghost who needs your help to finish it's unfinished business so it can cross over. Did this figure look like anyone you know, or someone you know to be dead?
