It's not the advertisers fault. It's the people that can't control themselves and spend what they don't have. People need to take responsibility for their own actions. Having bad credit doesn't make you a victim.

All advertising is designed to create or stir desires. If you spend a lot of time pouring over store catalogs, for example, you will see many things that you would love to have but didn't desire before you starting thumbing through the catalog. TV advertising doesn't "cause" compulsive shopping or bad credit, but it does contribute to both of these things by creating and stirring desires. How the people act on these desires is what brings about compulsive shopping and bad credit.

I think that an addiction to shopping causes compulsive shopping. However, I use that term loosely. You must take poor impulse control and psychological problems into account. There is a lot of conspicous consumption going on, fueled by a middle-class "keeping up with the Joneses" attitude as well as the ascribing of status and value to luxury goods. Possession of luxury goods doesn't make you a better person and isn't reflective of success or wealth acquisition.

I don't think it causes it but if you are that way by nature it will give it a boost. this is not always healthy, mentally or financially.

It contributes to it, but only the undisciplined shopper/spender causes it. God Bless you.
