I want a xbox 360. how much is a core at the least?

Your making the right choice as the 360 is much better then the PS3. If you want to play on-line though get the full system, not the core. The core doesn't come with a hard drive and is pretty much a waste unless you never plan on playing on-line.
But on line is where the games really shine, especially on Xbox Live. Xbox has and always will have the best on-line gaming community. Playstation failed to jump on that boat and is now floating without a paddle.

The least you can buy a core system is at the set Microsoft price of $299.00 + tax

Well the Core system is a good price. $300
The PRO system is $400.
