It takes 12 years of basic education. The number of required credits is decided by your local school board. Google the name of your County. The number and type of required credits will be documented in the curriculum policies. You can become eligible for The Graduate Equivalency Diploma exam after a certain number of credits have been obtained. Keep in mind the GED that although the GED may make you employable, the person with the regular diploma is more employable than you and it is quite a competitive workforce. Also, the regular diploma may be required for acceptance into various things you may want to accomplish later in life when general things will be totally different for you than they are today.

You can take the GED (general educational development) test and, if you make the minimum score required, you will have the equivalent of a high school diploma. Regulations as to minimum age and length of time you have to have been out of school in order to take this test vary from state to state.

If you are out of school you can take the GED. In CA there is test that you can take at 16 or your second semester of tenth grade that is the legal equivalent of a highschool diploma. It is different from the exit exam. If you pass, you are no longer subject to compulsary attendance laws. Other states may have similar tests you can take.

4 years in high school for a Diploma or take classes for G.E.D. which is like a diploma but you don't have to complete 4 years of high school for. Usually the G.E.D. is for ones who dropped out of high school for a particular reason and are too old to go back.

You can get equivalency in a number of ways but social experience awful as it can be is worth going through.

just testing for it is a GED its basically the same thing
