in a different country, in poverty, or war?

When I first read this, I was like, oh, I'd be the same, but you added more to the equation and I see now that I shan't.

In a different country, I imagine I would have the same kind of moral values instilled in me and follow the religious pattern that most families have. I also think that I might be a better follower of that religion since there is such freedom in doing so here in the US. If I am in a culture surrounded by poverty, I imagine that I am a different person with a different set of ideas and dreams. I believe that my philosophy on life would not be as optimistic as it is now. If the culture I am in is at war, I know that I would certainly not embrace the ideals that I've adapted. I might not be so content in the space that I am in. My options would change and I would not have the time to lull about and ponder what I wanted to do - it would, no doubt, be laid out before me without a matter of choice.

Put into perspective, it makes me so much more grateful for the place in which I live.
