You will need a teaching certificate in most school districts, but maybe not all. You will need a degree in school or counseling psychology; probably at least a masters degree in most districts. I'm not sure that ou can get a bachelors degree in counseling or school psychology; that may only be a masters level degree. Some districts may accept a certification in counseling which falls short of an actual degree, particularly if you are working your way up from teacher to counselor.

Bachelor's degree, master's degree in counseling wouldn't hurt, and about 300 hours for the counseling credential. Probably about five to six years.
