About 10 years ago, my granddaughter and I were on the highway at night going home after Spring Break. Without any warning, my car died and wouldn't start. My granddaughter at the time was 3 years old. I got out and raised the hood. No body would stop. I turned the inside light on, so that someone might see that we needed help. After about an hour a lady stopped and checked on us, she said to turn that light off, stay inside the car and not to roll the window down for anyone. I did as she asked. She came back after about 30 minutes with a wrecker truck that she and her husband owned, and she towed the car to the next town. Left the car at a shop, even though it was closed, and took us to a Motel to stay the night. She came back the next morning and picked us up, took us to eat and to pick up our car. My Prayer was answered. The lady who picked us up was wonderful to us.
I use to say I wouldn't stop for anyone. Now, I would try to help another person, in need, stranded on the highway.

No way.... may be back in the 50's... even the 60's. In this day and age, you are just asking to be shot, mugged....kidnapped...

I'm sorry... If I see a hitchhiker... i'm going to pass them by.

Sad but true...

These days, no..
I laugh when I see in some states along the highways, there are signs "Warning! Hitchhikers might be escaped convicts"...

Not a chance. There are too many freaks around. Unless it was a girl and it was late at night and she looked upset, but even then I'd be cautious.
