my friends ferret is sick and she thinks he's going to die. she went to the pet store last week and a store clerk gave her a nutritional supliment to put in her ferrets food and a couple days later her ferret started to get sick. at first he wouldnt eat or drink anthing. then he became inactive, he wouldnt play or walk around all he would do is sit in his cage and lay there all day. he wouldnt respond to anything. now she says they have been trying to force feed him and make him drink water just to keep him alive. she says he wont even get up to use the bathroom he just uses it on himself. his nose keeps bleeding and wont move at all. she thinks she may have given him too much of the supliment and that he may be constipated. she said his stomach is hard and her boyfriend took an cutip and around his butt it looks like he's full of feces but he hasnt had a movement in 3days now. she says the symptoms sound like parvo but ferrets cant get that.

She needs vet care for this animal NOW. Have her hook up with the local Humane Society or ASPCA. They might have a vet on staff that can help if she makes payments.
If she doesn't get him to a vet he will die, I'm surprised he's alive now.
And then have her find him a new home that can afford to get him the care he needs. I know I'm going to catch ten kinds of hell from you and everyone else, but if you can't afford the vet, you can't afford the pet.
No matter what's wrong with the ferret, it's nothing she can FIX at home. It takes a vet to take care of an animal this sick.
PLEASE DO NOT E-MAIL ME AGAIN, and leave my Mother out of this.
The truth sucks sometimes and if you don't want to hear it don't post your stuff on the internet.

Sounds like he may have a blockage if he can't poop. The nose bleeding really scares me. Sorry to agree with some others, but it sounds like this little guy has gravely serious issues. The best thing to do is get him to a vet ASAP for most likely, euthanasia.
If a vet refuses to treat him without payment, find another vet!
The bills can add up quickly, I spent $1000 trying to save my last ferret 2 years ago. If you can't afford the care, I suggest you stick with pets that require little maintenance.
The truth is, ferrets are so susceptible and so fragile, you can spend hundreds just to find out what's wrong, not to mention treatment, which may or may not work.. Since they're exotics, they usually don't show symptoms until it's too late.
But I sure sympathize with you- my first ferret died in my arms during congestive heart failure- it was AWFUL.
If you are going to have ferrets, please investigate your vet. Not all vets are good with ferrets, and some are downright terribly uneducated about them. I'm sorry about the little ferret. Makes me sad.

From what you have described, the kindest thing you could do for your ferret is have him euthanized. I'm sorry, but you waited way too long. When these little guys get sick, it doesn't take long for them to go downhill fast. I'm sorry, but you should say your last goodbyes. It could have been almost anything that has made him sick. He could have ingested something that you weren't aware of that caused an obstruction, or perhaps with the bleeding out of the nose, a heart problem. They tend to get Cardiomyopathy and then there's nothing you can do at that point except to put him on Lasix. I'm real sorry.

It is disgusting that your friend would allow her ferret to become so sick and irresponsible for your friend to not take the ferret to the vet. If your friend can not afford a vet, then your friend should have never gotten a pet. I am appalled at what this poor ferret must be going through. I wish your friend the same agony sometime when she is sick.

it sounds alot like viamin A toxicity, here is what i think it happening, i think that your ferret is impacted, that would explain the bloated feeling, the nose bleeds is going to be a little harder to pin down without running a couple lab tests. do you keep rodent poision traps in the house, i belive he has a potasium deffiecncy, in the animals i have treated the symptoms are alomst identical to roach/rodent/slug poisionsing, if you live in an apartment it could be that they sprayed.... secondly look at the chew toys that you are provideing, most common impactions in ferrets come from soft items that they injest, socks are a major one, the strings come off, they swallow them when they are playing, they build up over a couple hours of play and then BAM there stuck, and a part of there intesting dies.

It sounds like he ate something (small toy, string, plastic,etc..) and it got lodged in his stomach. Stop feeding him food. Get an eye dropper and gently put 1/2tsp of mineral oil (I think you can get this at Wal-mart) in him every 2hr; this will lube up his intestines to help get things going. Also, get a bottle of Pedia-sure from Wal-mart and use the eye dropper to give him the liquid as much as possible. If he is not swallowing do not force the liquids down his throat as you will just suffocate him by filling his lungs with fluid. As for his nose bleeding this is not good at all; most likely a build-up of toxins in his system. Also, do not use the supplement anymore in case he is having a reaction to it (unlikely but possible).

It appears like an insulinomic attack. Rub some karo syrup on his gums and then provide him a good number of protein (poultry toddler nutrients is full of it). Syringe feed it once you should. He desires the protein to save his blood sugar strong (yet by no potential do something if he's seizing. Wait 'til the seizure ends, then stabilize him). continually save karo syrup and toddler nutrients (to boot as syringes) handy. yet another ingredient is to get a daily blood sugar meter and computer screen his decision (mid-top 70s is well-known). study up on insulinoma and conceivable treatments to save him healthful and strong as conceivable. He extremely desires a vet, although. you may want to favor to imagine about getting him someplace the position that is legal to have them and then surrendering him. this isn't honest to him in any respect, and his desires could come formerly your human being.

she needs to get him to a vet asap. until you can go to the pet store and get something called duck soup. you will probably have to syringe feed him ...do not try to give him any of the supplement you did . it sounds like an allergic reaction. as for the potty problem use a soft warm wet cloth and wipe bottom gently . try to keep him warm so he doesn't go into shock and keep his nose cleaned out good luck
