Im currently having problems with my philosophy grade. My test grades were 2 B+, 2 D+. Dont get me wrong. I worked hard for the essay that gave me a D, but some problem arose and my professor had to give me a D.

Anyways, the problem is.. the semester is ending and im at risk of getting a D for a final grade. Those 2 D's pulled my grade down. I could drop the class and get a W. if Im going to repeat the same class for next semester, will my W show up on my permanent record? Because if I get a F, D for the current semester, I could just repeat the same course and If i do get better grades next semester, My previous grades wont appear on my permanent record. Should I Get a W and repeat the course or continue to fight for a better grade now and repeat if i couldnt get a better grade than D.

Students will not be permitted to repeat courses in which they received grades of A, B, C or CR except under the following conditions:

The college finds that the student's previous grade is, at least in part, the result of extenuating circumstances. Extenuating circumstances are verified cases of accidents, illnesses or other circumstances beyond the control of the student.

The college has determined that a student should repeat a course because there has been a significant lapse of time since the student previously took the course.

The second grade earned will not be counted under any circumstances if the first grade earned in a course was A, B, C, or CR. However, the permanent academic record shall be annotated in such a manner that all grades assigned remain legible, ensuring a true

Repetition of a Course in Which D, F, or NC Was Received
Students who receive grades of D, F, or NC in an El Camino College course may re-enroll in that same course one more time. Students will not be permitted to enroll in that course for a third time except under unusual circumstances and upon written permission of the division dean. Unusual circumstances are verified cases of accidents, illnesses or other circumstances beyond the control of the student.

The student, upon successfully repeating a course in which a grade of D, F, or NC, has been previously received, may notify the Admissions Office in writing. Upon receipt of such written notice, the student's transcript will be amended so that the previous grade and credit will be disregarded in the computation of the grade point average. The permanent academic record shall be annotated in such a manner that all grades assigned remain legible, ensuring a true and complete academic history.

as I see it you are already 3/4 of the way through the semester, I would drop the class and get a W, then you can retake the course again next semster, if you continue and get a D or F then that will affect your whole GPA average and you dont wanna do that...

Both a W or whatever grade you end up getitng will always be on your transcripts, regardless of if you retake the course or not. The marks you get will always be there. What does happen when you retake a course is that your GPA will only reflect the best grade. So if you take a W or a D now, and retake the class and get a B, then the B will be the only grade factored into your GPA for that class. However as I said first, the other grade wil still be on your transcript.

It is unfortunate that you are in this position. I too was in a similar position, and I ended up making a poor decision, and received an F. Which remains on my transcript. I gave up on the class after the last midterm, and thought I was destined to get an F in the class anyway, turns out that my assumption would not have been true (professor changed grading basis later).

My advice is to stick it out, especially since he final can have a huge effect on your grade, and you may be surprised with the result. The last thing you want is a poor mark on your transcrpit.

A lot depends on the repeat policy at your school....the standard is that you could get the W, repeat it and the only grade that shows is the last one. But schools have limits on how many courses can be repeated...usually 3. If you repeat once, the original course grade (or W) gets replaced...no harm, no foul - just wasted time.

A second repeat averages the 2 repeats....

On the other hand, 2 B+ and 2 D- should earn you a C or C+...and what was the problem (plagerism, maybe?)?

Talk to the instructor....

Read your catalog.....

If it is a course in your major, you may want to repeat it, if it is a gen. ed. course, shoot for the "C". Typically a "W" does show on your record (transcript), but so what? It carries no weight....

Think about your other courses, as well. If you drop and take it again, would your other courses benefit? If so, then drop and take the "W" - discretion is the better part of valor!

Good luck with the dilemma! You need to find out a little more info before you make the call!

Not an answer to your question, but ....

As college student once upon a time I received a grade of C which destroyed my fine 4 Pt average (and my ego). I graduated with nearly 4Pt BA and went on to a Masters that ended with a higher GPA than the BA. But, you know what, the class I LEARNED the most in was the class I received the C in. I'm still grateful for that grade.

Oh well, I'll answer your question anyhow: Tough it out!

Finish out the semester. The final exam might pull your grade up as well.

If you finish with a D take the course again when you are ready (you might feel the need to wait a semester to come back at it fresh) and the better grade will eradicate the bad grade you have on your transcripts.

I did this with science and it was okay. No sense in withdrawing this late in the semester. Just finish it out.

yeah, so if you complete th course and get a bad grade it will still pull down you gpa reguardless if you do better next semester. I'm not sure if a w will stay on you record, but it will not bring sown your gpa. so I would think it would be more beneficial to take the w and gt a better chance of increasing you gpa.
