Personally, I prefer the multicolored ones as they are more vibrant and add to the festive occasion.
However, this year, I will have to go with clear lights, as my decorations will be a beautiful "snowy" blue. This blue is perfect for my Snowman theme that the tree will be decorated in; therefore the multicolored lights would clash and you would not see the beauty of the blue - I want it to stand out.

Multi-color lights. I like a splash of color for Christmas. Simple white lights are only good if you are surrounded by snow, which I'm not, as I live in Hawaii.

I prefer the ones that go white, then fade out into clear then back into white. Simple yet elegant.
