35 y.o. white female, fair complexion, no pregnancies:
I'm uncomfortable looking inside the vaginal area because it's ugly, so I don't look very often. In order to see inside, I have to hold a small mirror up to it. The first time I looked in there, I was 12 or 13. I've looked a few times in my 20's. Up until I turned 30, I noticed that the labia minora were hot pink. After that, I've noticed that they're BROWN! *yikes!* (again, consider that I'm fair complected - my nipples are pale pink) Is this changing color a sign of cancer? I'm afraid of what a doctor might say. I feel the same in that region - no pain, just a different color.

I date women from the ages of 20 to 37 and I have noticed that the older they are the darker it tends to be. I wouldnt worry about it. They all look good. ;-) Go ahead and go to the doctor to ease your mind. You should be going every year anyways.

Change of skin color on the OUTSIDE lips of the vagina is one possible symptom of vulvar cancer. This does ultimately include the labia (the inner lips) and the clitoris.

I've read it is common for the labia to change color during sexual stimulation and after giving birth but I can't find a reliable source for color change over age. I found one was but it was a teen site with no credentials and no other sites to back it up.

Since the cancer risk is usually associated with pain, I would note it, monitor for growths (because internal cancer is usually assoc with tumors) and bring it up on your next pelvic exam, scheduled sooner rather than later.

The only thing that worries me about your question is that you say you are not wanting a doctor to look there. Are you saying you don't go for yearly exams? You should do this. I am sure everything is fine with your personal parts, but there could be anything wrong at any time with your female organs and you wouldn't even know till it was too late. My cousin was 26 before she had ever had an exam. By the time she did her ovaries had several large cysts on them and she had to have her ovaries removed. If she had been to the doctor before, they could have found them in their beginning stages and treated her for them. I am sure there is nothing wrong with you, but wouldn't you rather know now before it was too late? Good luck to you.

the interior lips of the labia/vulva darkens to a purplish violet blue or a deeper reddish tone as a results of better blood bypass. I consistently became plum colored, only approximately burgandy with dark blue veins very obvious. i'm somewhat honest so it may desire to be counted on your coloring besides. At 6 to eight weeks it fairly is meant to be greater bluish comparable on your cervix. it fairly is termed Chadwick's sign, and is a in all hazard sign of being pregnant. those are easily early indicators of being pregnant yet different than for the vaginal shade differences could nicely be pms appropriate. only wait and notice.

If you're 35, I'm sure you're getting regular pap smears and gynecological exams? If not, they should have begun when you started menstruating or when you became sexually active at the latest! Over the years your body changes and this can include pigment, however, regular exams are necessary to be sure you stay healthy!

Don't worry about it. the color changes with age. As long as you are feeling ok....don't worry

And..........as a woman we need to feel comfortable with examining ourselves. It's our own temple...love the skin you're in

no, its a sign of age and its totally normal, cancer seldom attacks the external part of the female organs, its the interior where its wet and dark that gets in trouble.
