Is it so racist in America that racial discrimination is part of the very fabric of this sick twisted society? I am from Tibet and I was harrassed by the police and called racist names by the police.

It's because some policemen unfortunatley put non white Americans in the same category as being criminals where that is wrong because there is good and bad in every race. For the participants that answered that non whites commit the most crimes, your answer is irrelevent because the police's duty is to "to serve and protect" not to harrass and put others down because of their race. There is no excuse to be a racist especially when a police officer is suppose to be the example of having honor and integrity. By the way, I am sorry that you were harrassed by the police.

Let me guess, you were in California or Texas. (lol)

For some reason police in certain areas feel that crime is a non-white thing. (or at least most crime) I think U can get a police officer written up for that. You'd have to look into that cause I'm not sure.

In Sociology class we talked about racial profiling. A students said they work a Target and they, sometimes, do racial profiling. They have walkie talkies and they tell their employees to follow certain non-white costumers around. One time, while an employee was told to follow a non-white customer a group of white kids just came in and took some stuff.

I have personally learned that the police dont tend to target any one on person it just seems to happen that way, my mom is white and my step father is black and we used to live {when i was living with her} in an all black and mexican community....yeah there were some whites but the retired ones and the ones that didnt have a clue LOL... well each day i noticed how normally the blacks and mexicans always always always seem to run from the police literally thinking they can get away with it and the police and gotten so tired of it this stuff happend day after day than finally we moved but if you notice the "non white people." always seem to try and get away with stupid stuff like this and the "white" people tend to give up when the lights are flashing. But i am not saying that all non white people tend to run there are alot of them that didnt and still got the attack only cause they had a racist police or the police had a bad day.

But these days america isnt racist it sometimes can be the people who live in america that havent gotten over there history.

I am sorry that happened to you. You were unfortunate enough to be pulled over by racist police. There is too much racial profiling in the USA. BTW, if you are indeed a buddhist (as I am), then you know your karma was kinda crummy that day. I sincerely hope the rest of your time here goes well.

I think that the police are equal opporunity harassers. I got harrased several times and I am white total white. My car was dirty and that was why. It has to do with where we are in my town. Perhaps if you are being harrased too much you should move somewhere else where the harass people equally or just do not harass people. Try a town with a college in it they are more diverse and tollerant. I do not get harrased near the university in my town just a certain area where people cruise. I avoid that area and am left alone.

It is inexcusable if they called you racist names, and what you do is get theirs and report them. People who are attracted to positions of power are always the ones who can be least trusted with it, but that is politics for you. IDEALLY they would be looking for a suspect matching your description under whatever given circumstances they met you, to justify being "targeted". It's also because of the backlash over the illegal immigrant problem that is giving all apparent immigrants, legal or not, an unwelcome feeling. Not a proud moment for our society, I agree.

Because it is the individual, do NOT question a whole group based on the actions of one person, you are just as bad as them, if maybe one of your people did something to the individual, he will take it against ALL Tibetans...you should not hold it against all American "pigs" and maybe they will be more tolerant.

because the common perception is that non-whites commit more crimes.

so police patrol non-white areas more, and guess what? more non-whites get arrested. it's a vicous circle.
