I wouldn't recommend that you buy a pet like a cat or dog online. You really should at least see and preferably spend a little time with an animal before committing to love, shelter and feed it for the next 20 years (some dogs/cats can live this long). If you're looking for a specific breed of animal and want to know if anyone in your area breeds this animal call local veterinarians and ask if they know of any reputable breeders. Pet shops can be a good place to call too, although not all pet shops are willing to give you unbiased information since they're in it for the money. However, I do know that http://www.LiveAquaria.com sells fish and live aquarium plants and coral.

I would not trust a place like that since they do not get their meds from the manufacturer. There's no telling how many hands those meds could go through before they are sold, how long they sit in a warehouse or even if they are the real thing. Not to mention, if you get your meds from the vet and for some crazy reason your dog does develop heartworm, those meds are guaranteed and your dog's treatment would be covered with no cost to you. You don't get that guarantee if your order online. The few bucks more you would spend getting them from your vet is worth the peace of mind that your pet is 100% protected, at least in my opinion. Add: To What?!>, you asked what do wolves do? THEY DIE! The lifespan of a wolf in the wild is 8 years versus 15 years in captivity because in captivity they get proper medical care. That's almost HALF the life expentancy. Do you really want to do that to your dog? Haven't you ever wondered why wolves always look thin? Life in the wild is hard and subjecting your dog to illness just because animals in the wild get those illnesses is less than fair.

Petfinder is a clearinghouse of sorts for shelters, rescues & humane societies. You can adopt very nice pets of all kinds starting at that web site. As a bonus for adopting through them, you'll likely get a limited term of health insurance for the pet as well as guarantees of varying degrees depending on which rescue you adopt from.

I hope none of them!
Many pet shelters have animals that are available for adoption up on their websites, though.
