lol...Basically, nothing. I used to have a teacher that penalized us for using it in a sentence because he said it was just a "filler" word and that taking it out wouldn't change the sentence at all...and basically, he was right. 8+)

It is just another over-used word . People like to use "filler" words in their conversations. I can think of a few others: whatever, irregardless ( that one drives me nuts--no such word exists in the English language), totally, huge, etc.

they would be putting whatever they wanted to say in easier to understand and shorter words
