Ok my car has been making a screeching kinda noise for a year now and it sounds like it may be coming from the CV shaft, it makes this noise when the car is moving in a forward gear but doesn't make the noise if you reverse. (The shaft and all its moving connections rotate the opposite way in reverse)

The sedan is powered by the rear wheels and if you jack the back up so the wheels don't touch the ground and then use the accerater it won't make the noise so there for it may not be the CV shaft. I'm confused, could it only be doing this while it is on the ground because of some weight pushed down on it as well as the moving forward? The mechanics have checked the brakes, wheels, put new rotors, new suspansion and shock absorbers and still noise!

Any ideas would be a great help

P.S I own a "1997 VS Holden sedan commodore"

i own a repair shop, and its possible it has something rubbing that you cant see, since it hasn't caused any problems its not a serious thing, but i know its driving you nuts i have had sounds like that before, and i have to find them you might try looking at any joint it has and see if anything looks like it could possibly rub once in a while, and anything that moves needs to be looked at,,its probably something simple,,us mechanics usually look for the worse thing, and it turns out to be the most simple thing there is on the car, just set down, and think of something simple and check it,,at this point you have nothing to loose by doing this,,good luck,i hope this help,s.

Maybe something is just hitting the wheel when the car is lowered, could just be a plastic cover underneath thats bent

It would sound like its the bearing itself to me. maybe a sheild rubbing just enough to be annoying, or something similar to that. You don't have aftermarket wheels on it do you? Like oversize, or something crazy?

It could be the "Nut " behind the wheel.
