It's about time someone stood up to this freakish backward nonsense. This idiocy belongs in the dark ages. Fine if you want to live like that go off and do it in some daft country that has that tradition. Dont come to europe and ram that intimidating scary dress code down our throats. A religious system that spawns terrorists and oppression having its minions allowed to run all over the globe with their faces covered? mindbending. Most of us couldnt give a damn whatever twisted reasons they have for doing it. This 'tolerance' bollocks goes too far these days. Take the veils off or go home I say.

I don't live in Holland, so I don't know anything about the lack of security with men wearing burqas and doing terrorist lacks and whatnot, so I can't really say anything. But! I personally believe that they should be able to wear it because it's a religious idea. And also, they even have a number of women who wear that. Call me crazy, but that's a bit weird that they would have on record what someone wears. That's like having a census go down in the US for anyone who likes to wear Armani clothes.

I think it's a matter of context. Maybe in primitive societies women need to hide their youth and beauty from predatory males, and this type of headgear is the only protection they can have. In western society although we have all the usual human evils, generally the law can be relied on to protect women from assault while going about their daily business and the burqha is out of context, ridiculous and unnecessary. It belongs to a society where women are second class citizens with the approval of the law. Educated women who don this gear are just militant attention seekers and are antagonising decent people who would bear them no ill will if they compromised with us in our own country instead of expecting us to make all the concessions. Rights bring responsibilities with them - otherwise they become privileges.

I think its brilliant and brave to stand up to these immigrants that come into your country and try changing things, its a rude and provocative thing to do ,its not even required by the religion its associated with.
If only Tony Blair ,or any british goverment had the balls that the Netherlands have we would have far happier population,at least the vast majority.

I go to a muslim country I'll wear a veil as a token of respect to their tradition
so if they came to Europe they should also respect ours
and we don't wear veils and a few times it happened that my friend kid was crying in seeing this strange person all in black with no eyes visible ..yes it even shocked me sometimes
the very first time was in India ..seeing most of the women in colorful saris and gracefull made quite a spooky contrast to feel the difference in energy ..
they must or their men will beat them up
I used to live in the Netherlands for reasercjhh a while back and do you know that the most abused women are the moslim ones .. they have had to put up extra shelter for the great demand
of it just by these women
our neughbour was bitten up just for allowing me to carry her shopping upstairs she was 20 with a boy of two and 9 months pregnant ...so I don't believe they really wish for it ..they must ..or they'll get in trouble at home ..and they are not allowed to speak to us even women..
I say if someone wants to change their life and go and work in other countries they should integrate within our culture at home they can do what they wish but why make us feel bad and unconfortable in our home land
yes I don't mind the veil but the all extreme outfit it makes me unconfortable ..why should I feel bad ? or judged .. in my own country
none asks us how we feel .not tomntion the srange looks if you happened to see them Immean do we deserve to be judged in our home beside ..who in the right mind would in summer want to wear all that stuff and black ?

I think wearing burqa is silly, but that's just me. Many women feel that it is a genuine expression of their faith and would feel very exposed without it. I guess banning it altogether would be nearly as bad as forcing women to wear it, as in some places in the Middle East.

i think its just right.. you cant go into a bank wearing a motor bike helmet and in N.Ireland you can get done for having a balaclava and its the same thing as a burqa so one rule should mean one rule

Excellent idea. You can't see who's at home if the curtains are drawn, so let's see who's there no matter what they look like.

I agree. But they should allow women to cover their hair whilst showing their face.

I think it's their right to wear it. Other people get to make her decisions for her. A burqa (or niqab) is worn out of devotion to her God, not because anyone is making her wear it.
