With modern housing and material of clothes, it's not really the problem it used to be. But back in the day, it was a much bigger problem. Wool clothes + untreated wood + creaky/drafty houses = big moth problem.
My Grandmum's house always smelled like mothballs. To this day it reminds me of her and brings back fond memories :)

They are from a generation where you don't just go out and buy new clothes every other week. They use things until they can't be used any more, and if they can preserve things a little longer, they save money, and the Earth's resources.

Old school people did, in fact, have moth issues when they packed away the last seasons wardrobe. Nowadays, they just won't give up the old habit. My own mother , sadly, insists on using them. I hate the way her house smells, but she won't give it up!

yes, they do, especially anything with wool in,,,, but once you take them out of mothballs you should let the clothes air out, before you wear them.

actually, i think it is their clothing. Old people keep alot of their clothing crammed into closets.
