See, I'm a female college student and sometime in the near future I will have to wear heels. I bought some, but they hurt my feet until the point where I have to take them off. But, other girls wear heels and -painful looking- boots all the time. How do they do it?

Get used to the pain.discomfort--try the low heels with a larger heel that is rounder than the square end of a high heel-much easier to walk in and still look very smart.A very high heel is not necessary in the business world and its not even recommended for only a medium heel is considered appropriate. Very high heels are also very bad for the foot as any Podiatrist will attest to.The boots with the very high heels are also available, the style for are really hot, are also available in sensible but still HOt heels. Any shoe you wear should be comfortable and allow a full stride-much sexier than a walk hindered by pain and discomfort-difficult then to walk with self confidence-more noticed and admired than teetering on high heels which also is noticed but not admired.

It's a little bit of both.
Yes there are comfortable heels...after you get used to them. I can wear 4" heels all day long and not even think about it. Start small...you don't have to start out at 5" Also, start wide. Wedges or wider heels have more stability so you're not spending an extraordinary amount of thought or effort balancing. Also, start with about a 2" boot with a heel wider than a stiletto. The added support around your foot and ankle also helps you get accustomed to the new foot position.
The flipside of this is if you're picking out heels for a special occasion like a formal party or something and you want something that's higher or more delicate than you're regularly accustomed to. You can also take some time wearing something higher than what you plan on wearing out to the event. This way, the lower heel will feel much more comfortable.

I've gotten where flats sometimes feel awkward and I enjoy having at least some amount of heel under me.

I think you may just have to get used to it. I own just a couple pairs of heels and wear them only occasionaly. I like to wear nice flats instead if I can. But sometimes you just need a sexy heel, I know. Go try on some more at a department store and see if you can find a pair that is more comfortable for you. Some are better than others. And I agree with the person who said kitten heels are worse. You would think they would be better, but I find them to be the most uncomfortable.

wear whatever suits u best personally i like the higher ones just because i'm really short for my age i'm 16 and 5 feet exact so heels arent' a problem if they seriously hurt ur feet get the gel inserts. if u dont want to wear flats or the kitten heel (which i find really retarded) try a heel about 2 or 2 1/2 inches up those are usually the best and if those hurt then go for the kitten heel or flats and its true some of them are very cute

It's really not the heel that's the problem it's the brand of shoes. some bands make the inside of the shoe much more comfortable. But truthfully yes you have to learn. Especially if you wear about 31/2 inch heel this will usually place your leg in a position like you are walking on your toes. It's not the best feeling but the benefits of nice tone legs is what you get from it. It's like a workout without going to the gym. The reason why a lot of us keep wearing and learning to walk in these shoes is for that benefit of those nice legs. Think model, they all have nice tone legs.

ok, I wear high heels a lot, when I find beautiful ones, but it is really the matter of quality and a habit, if you wear them at least 6 hours a day walking at least 3 hours n 2 -3 weeks if will not be able to be without a heel. Believe me it works, though it is not good to wear very high heels all the time, it may couse back problems ect.

I used to wear stillettos all the time...even to go shopping all day in town. It KILLED me...blisters...sore feet. I dont think you can wear anything over 2 inches in a heel and feel comfy...lets face it you are walking on your toes all day. If you must wear heels try wearing stacked heels or wedges. It gives you a bit more stability and your feet arent on tiptoe all the time. But seriously I was crazy back then...just wear what feels comfortable...there are some nice flats out there now if you look around for them.

I think to a certain extent it is getting used to them but in saying that I have found some heels to be more comfortable than others. I find the kitten heel (that low one) really painful whereas a higher heel, I actually find more comfortable. I think the trick is finding a heel that feels good for you and then getting used to it.
Its hard being a woman! :(

Out of desperateness. I used to work at a retail store where I always had to wear shoes/heals. My problem was that I had to be on my feet the entire eight hours. I had problems with my feet for almost a year after I quit! Heels are bad! Shoes are bad! Seriously. If you will be seated the majority of your work day I guess you can tolerate the little walking trips you will need to make?
