Hi:
Math was invented when men need to keep track of something be it animals, fruit, berries or stones, whatever. Later the mathematics was refined when men notice certain relationships with addition and subtraction of numbers and invented multiplication and division in the process to help speed up there account of things, so they didn't fall asleep on the job { this is where the saying of counting sheep to help you fall asleep comes in} however as men grow into more civilized society he need better ways to measure lands and make sure anyone paid the right amount of grain and other food for taxes and insured the they can survived the winter times or droughts . As cities and people be came even more complex they had time to study math in more depth and made a lot of new discoveries along the way. Each man adding what he know, and proving it right or wrong. and we are still adding to it today.
And so we have math that we love and hate so well today.

Math was never invented by someone we can name. Arithmetic has been used since man started rearing animals. He would keep one stone for each animal in the herd. If one moved in, a stone would be added. If one left or died, a stone would be removed. The first person to practice and state many axioms and theorems on geometry was Euclid of Alexandria. But geometry was around even before then. As he was the first person to record his findings, he is credited with his discoveries. But Pythagoras was the first ever to state the right-angled triangle theorem. Different branches of math had different beginnings. Those who recorded and proved their findings got the credit though they were not the first there.

Math did not need to be invented! It has been around forever. Well, ok,
here is a quote from "Mathematical Thought from ancient to modern times":
"Mathematics as an organized, independent, and reasoned discipline did not
exist before the classical Greeks of the period from 600 to 300 BC entered
upon the scene. There were, however, prior civilizations in which the
beginnings or rudiments of mathematics were created."
