I recommend finger exercises...heres what I do.

Using the 3, 4, 5, 6th strings (4 heaviest) and the 1, 2, 3, 4th fret positions:

1st finger (index) plays 3rd string 1st fret
2nd finger (middle) plays 4th string 2nd fret
3rd finger (ring) plays 5th string 3rd fret
4th finger (small) plays 6th string 4th fret

play single notes with the finger shown, picking in up/down motion:

1 4 2 1 4 1 4 3 1 2 2 3 4 1

2 1 3 2 1 2 1 4 2 3 3 4 1 2

3 2 4 3 2 3 2 1 3 4 4 1 2 3

now do the same thing with the lightest 4 strings on 12, 13, 14, 15th frets

lather, rinse, repeat, and learn your scales.

nicely, it actual relies upon on the specific sound you're going for. of direction you do no longer could use a %., yet this is the main broadly used technique between rock guitarists. even although, i'm no longer rather specific the way you will possibly get a pinch harmonic without a %., on account which you prefer the %., and then the thumb at the back of it suited away to decrease off the decrease frequencies...yet once you have got here upon a manner, extra ability to you.

to get fast, take a song you know well, and play it faster then normal. When you are comfortable with it, go faster. Keep getting faster until you can fly. That's how you get fast.
