I know for a fact that a person can write a check on a tshirt or a brown bag or bevnap, etc etc but someone is arguing with me about it. Im trying to find an official site that shows that this is 100% legal. While im sure that most banks wont take a check written on a pepsi bottle or a scrap sheet of paper, by law it is still considered to be a valid check.

I know that this was the case in Canada and possibly other Commonwealth countries but I'm not sure it applied everywhere. The most official place to check would be the Bank Act (the federal legislation that sets up banking and establishes the standards that must be met). If it is on line it will be linkable from the federal website. Since cheques have to be MICR encoded now, the act has probably been changed but maybe not.
