Before this question can be answered, we have to determine what you are looking for. I assume superhero comics are what you are looking for. As a ?possibly? new reader, I would stick with the Ultimate line from Marvel or one of the Johnny DC titles so you don't get bogged down by long reaching continuity. But there is an entire cornicopia of titles out there for you to read so go ahead and enjoy the world of comics.

"Sally Forth" usually is pretty good. "Rhymes With Orange" has some very wry humor.
Reading the answer of the person who answered ahead of me--did you mean comics as in Billy Crystal, comic books as found in convenience stores and sometimes grocery stores, or comics as in those found in your local newspaper?
