have been looking for banacek dvd/video for my brother for christmas and am struggling to find it anyone any idea

Remember Amazon can still do the looking for you as they are a more valued and safe broswer. I used my own targeted search and this appears to be the only full collection on any site that I could find. Ebay are selling a few single episode for around $3.00.
You have not pointed out where you live, but there dvd will only play in region one (usa) not europe (region 2) a pc MAY be able to play them, or you could invest in an american dvd player or an unlimited country code changing dvd unit.
