Both have their down sizes as well as good points. Look at your the fllowing before your decide which way to go....1) How much do I have to protect ? ie family, collectable items, family photos, think of both your intangable assets as well as your tangable assets. 2) How much is the system going to cost you over all ? Remeber most homeowners insurance prices are reduced with an alarm system installed. (This could offset the part of the annual price for service) Figure out what the install cost would be as well as the monthly, yearly fees , as well as charges for false alarms, (yes some companies will charge you if an alarm is triggered by accident, and emergency services respond) Also if the company charges to maintain or update your system and services.
As for going wired or wireless again they both have good and bad points that only keep an honest person honest. Call and have a national security / alarm systems representive come to your home, that would be the best way to get the right system for you. Oh as one added note; a monitor system is better than an unmonitored system, the extra cost is worth the peace of mind.

Wireless systems today are top-notch. A few years ago I wouldn't install one. A hard wired system is your best bet though. No batteries in the devices to change. Your main concern should be who will install the system. Stay away from ADT, Brinks, etc. These large companies don't care for the customer after the sale. Get a local security contractor to do the work. He will take good care of you, his future business depends on it.

Hardwired is best. Everybody and his cousin can get their hands on a frequency scanner and defeat the wireless system.
