They're paranoid. They think everybody who disagrees with them is a liberal and that the whole world is immoral that loves gays. They believe that the Teletubbies are gay and influencing children, they think Spongebob is a flamer with a liberal agenda. Conservatives believe Sesame street is filled with commie liberals whose sole purpose is to make children gay and democrats. Children are too young to know if there is even a "gay undertone" to the book. They will think it's so cute. My cousins watch Spongebob and they are growing up just fine. Conservatives need to take a chill pill.

I don't see that this fits into the words "political correctness". I do see parents being concerned about what their children read, and if it is such a concern then they can surely monitor their own children, or home school them or something. I certainly don't expect schools run by churches to allow a book like that and that's fine since they are private or parochial schools but regarding the public schools I don't know why they have school libraries anyway when there is the internet and public libraries. When I was in school there was a school library filled with books about the saints and how to live your life, so I can't understand the big to-do about this.

The Republican fear tactics aren't working anymore! Many Good Decent Christian People have known all along that this was an Illegal & imorral war from the start! Iraq did not attack us! Osoma bin Laden did! Iraq had nothing to do with this! This war is about oil! The Republican Party is creating the illusion that Iraq was the cause of 9/11! Well we the people are confronting the evidence! Please tell us! What did Iraq do to instagate 9/11? One does not have to be a republican to love one's country! I am not unpatriotic! I am not treasonous! I love my country! I am not against the troops I am against the war! I am an American!

What seperates Man from Beast? Besides, I don't think the two male penguins rubbed their "peckers" together and fertilized that egg. As far as I know penguins are monotinous.Since the mother obviously wasn't there, the penguins possibly did what penguins do,,,,, bonded together for well being of their society. It does take a community to raise a child.
Oh, and I never heard of Gay penguins....or any animal for that matter....BECAUSE IT IS NOT NATURAL! If it was , according to Darwin, the species would be extinct, SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST!

I'd have to read the book to really understand its merits, but frankly...that's Shiloh, for you. The idea that same-sex couple's can't provide a loving, positive atmosphere horrifies conservatives, as if only opposite-sex couples can do so. If it rattles a bunch of homophobic parents and church leaders, then they should move to Iran where their kind of xenophobic attitude is widely accepted.
p.s: to eg_ansel.....homosexual behavior has been observed and recorded in animals for many years now. Any number of animal behavioural and psych journals should provide some examples.

I don't get how this has anything to do with political correctness. It seems more like a matter best left to parents. If most parents are against it, then the school should respect the rights of parents.
Whose children are they anyway? They do not belong to the state.
EDIT: I told my 9 year old your story. You should have seen the look on his face, LOL!! Good luck with the others.

You'd have to be stupid to not notice that they are zoo animals that were placed in a deliberately created setting. It's about as genuine as me cutting off my dog's foot, taking him deer hunting, and writing about the miraculous three legged deer hunting dog.
It's not a true story. It's an experiment that happened to have worked.
Does it also escape you that the egg was a PENGUIN egg? The world isn't short on them. They do well in captivity. One egg less wouldn't matter to the world. There are traditional penguin couples that could have raised it.
I refuse to believe that this book wasn't planned when someone obtained the egg to begin with.
There's nothing "true" about it.

If you want an honest answer it's because they're idiots. No child is going to think of homosexuals because of a true story & even if they did the parents are going to have to explain sooner or later

It might be true in a zoo - but in the wild, those two male penguins would have eaten that baby.
Why do people who are not conservatives keep trying to force their skewed views of life on others?

Don't know what's more damn exasperating....
Conservatives insisting that homosexuality is weird and should be completely ignored, or liberals insisting that we always have to include books showing homosexuality as perfectly normal...even to the point of pushing it in elementary school.
