Maybe a prepaid mastercard or visa so that they could use it to to keep in touch with the families while they are in Japan. A box of non-perishable favorite foods they can take with them so the don't get hungry, if for some reason they can't adjust to the japanese cuisine. That's a tough question. Hope this helps a little. A picture album of both families to take with them also would be good. Children are always easy to buy for till they become teenagers.

For the parents you can give something from The Body Shop.
For the baby you could give some small model of Ships, air plains (The ones that can be hung on the ceiling so the baby can look at them then falls asleep ) ...something like that. Or soft toys or something from The Body Shop to take a bubble bath.
