It seems to me that the way to keep Illegal immigrants out of the country is to improve situations in Mexico so that the people will want to stay there.

Granted, it's not the US's job, but in this case it may beneficial to the well being of our country to prevent illegal aliens from entering the country. A fence? Please. Lets get to the root of the problem.

The Mexican Government can very well afford to take care of all of its own people. Their oil industry is the second richest in the world next to Saudi Arabia. The Mexican government is exploiting its own people making things hard for them to survive at home and then encouraging them to migrate in droves to the United States. Their agenda is two fold. One is that they want to take back California and Texas and they are using their citizens to come here in such numbers that we cannot keep up with it. They are also organizing the illegals here to protest that we have a problem with their illegality (Mexico would never put up with us doing that to them) and with the financial burden they are imposing on American tax payers. The second agenda of the Mexican government in pushing out their citizens into the United States is that the illegals send back over a billion dollars a year to Mexico and that BOOSTS their economy BIG TIME. (It HURTS our economy BIG TIME). Too many people here have been fooled into thinking that the poor Mexicans have no alturnative but to come here or starve. NOT TRUE!!! Vincente Fox is a snake in the grass. He is greedy and uses his citizens to take us over and get richer and we don't even know it. And we, as compassionate a country as we are, we still should not be used like we are bythe Mexican government.

Mexico and Canada are the biggest oil exporters to the US. Mexico is the fifth largest oil exporter in the world....so....how come their people are running north? Mexican problems are Mexican. The reason we don't do anything about it is the stranglehold of oil. The good news is that most of our oil doesn't come from the middle east. We NEED to seal the borders....We NEED a national ID card and a system that requires it to do business. We NEED a flat tax and a value added tax so that EVERYONE who buys stuff...from hamburgers to hotel rooms....pays taxes on it...this is the way to improve the situation....illegals are not immigrants...they are trespassers..

All I hear is how to send illegals back . . . some of you are Irish, French, German, Indian, etc... Would you like us to send you back to a corrupt country? Geeez have a little heart people! Most of the illegal immigrants pick our fruits, run our dairies and help make production work here in the U.S. Who else will work tirelessly ALL DAY for a mere 6.75 an hour? They will because in Mexico one days work here will be a weeks worth over there. Geeez people, think about it. Not all of them are bad, lazy or mooching off the U.S. Some of them have achieved more than you and I. Give them a break. I think as long as they're productive here in the U.S. they have a right to stay and build a future for their families like they set out to do.
To answer the question...The Mexican Government is extremely corrupt and as long as it stays that way, so will Mexico and it's people. Some of you are right...the Mexican people need to try to change their Government but it's sad to say that most families are scared. Believe it or not.

We have been sending humanitarian aid to Mexico for several decades now. Mexico has a hugh tourist industry and is rich in natural resources. The problem there is a corrupt government. The U.S. cannot do anything about it. It is up to the Mexican people to take responsibility and vote for change.

I've read that illegal immigrants from Spain to other European countries used to be a problem, but that sometime after the formation of the EU, Spain started getting subsidies. The number of immigrants dropped a lot. I read this in a newspaper article, but don't remember the details.

no offense but mexico has to deal with its own problems, like we have to deal with ours. either way illegal immigrants aren't supposed to be here anyway its the law, but lets hope that this feeling of liberty and help in the us extends to the immigrant's country. i will try to make an editorial on this if you like and i thank you for the inspiration. the site is under constuction but you can still check it out.

Mexico has the money to revitalize itself. The government is so corrupt though that they prefer their citizens to jump the border, work here illegally, then send MORE money to Mexico.

It all comes down to one thing, if they want the advantages here in this country then come in legally. L-E-G-A-L-L-Y. How are we going to revitalize there country so they can make money thats worth twice it's value and get the free handouts they are getting here? I think you have the right idea but it won't work.

Great idea. I was afraid we were running out of ways to spend my taxes on things that do nothing for me, but I realize that I was limiting my thinking to just the United States.

If that doesn't bankrupt us, perhaps we could irrigate the Moon.
