I never used castor oil cause I heard it makes you have really bad bowel movements. When I was in my last month of pregnancy, I just did a lot of walking. I would walk around the block once every day and on the day I was supposed to have my son, I hadn't gone into labor or anything that day and I ended up walking around the block 2 times and at 2:40AM the day after he was due, my water broke. I'm not sure if walking more on that day helped induce it or what but I just know that was the only time I had walked twice as much and my water ended up breaking. There really is no sure fire way to induce labor. It's something that happens when the baby is ready to come out.

First off, you should not use Castor oil, for reason's listed by other people, but out of curiosity I did ask my prenatal care provider about why people try it. She said that Castor oil acts as a laxative and the frequent bowel movements may bring on contraction's. If nearing end of pregnancy or full term the contractions are of such a strong nature they develop a pattern and your cervix dilates bringing on active labor. Although, the possibility of them working is there it is a dangerous solution to something that will be fixed naturally with patience.

I have had 4 babies and all were born past their due date (#1 9 days late, #2 11 days late, #3 5 days late, and #4 7 days late). I tried everything suggested to bring labor on - having sex, walking, driving down bumpy roads, eating spicy food, scrubbing floors on my hands and knees. I never ingested anything like Castor oil because I was uncomfortable with trying anything internal in case it affected my baby. No matter what I tried, nothing brought on labor any sooner than when the baby was ready to come. None of the things I tried were harmful to me or the baby so go ahead and try them. Some women swear that one of those methods worked for them, but none of them worked for me.

Do not take castor oil. When I was pregnant with my first child I was so uncomfortable so I asked my doctor what I could do and he said there was really nothing I could do. But I took a really long walk and the next day my daughter was born. So I can tell you that worked for me. Also I was told having sex works also as long as you are comfortable.

Using castor oil to induce pregnancy is an old wive's tale. If you want to induce labor you need to discuss that with your doctor (IF you are indeed pregnant). If the doctor declines to do so it is for the health of you as well as your child. Or would you rather put the life of your child in danger by forcefully expelling it from your womb before it is ready? If that is the case they why didn't you simply have an abortion earlier in the term.

My OB told me that nothing really works, but gave me his blessing to try things like walking, spicy foods, castor oil, sex, etc. I tried everything but the castor oil, and my baby was born 2 days before my due date. My conclusion is the same as some of the other answers...the baby will come when he/she is ready. Enjoy this time to get ready for your baby, and SLEEP as much as you can now!! Good luck!!

You should not try to induce labor, when the baby is ready, then it will be born. Talk to your doctor, and if the Doc thinks it is past time, then he can induce labor.
Castor Oil is only one of many "old wive's tales". I tried it, tried running, jumping rope and nothing worked. My baby was due Nov. 28 and was born Dec. 21. The doctor said if she wasn't born by the next Monday he would induce labor, and she was born the Friday before.
Most important thing, talk to your doctor.
Good luck, and don't rush it. Take good care of yourself.

I never heard of using castor oil.. and no labor inducing method is gaurenteed (unless you go to the hospital).

You can have sex, eat spicy foods, take a long walk...

Your baby is in there for a reason.. it needs to be.

Dont use the castor oil. I agree with lady_miss. It can cause that and I know of a girl that had a baby that died from that. The baby had inhaled alot of that meconium

DO NOT TAKE CASTOR OIL! It can cause your baby to have a significant bowel movement inside the womb, called meconium,
which he/she can then inhale and would cause a world of problems. I would suggest walking, having sex and nipple stimulation!
