Myself, as I'm sure everyone else, could use some supplemental income. I am over 40 and in a solid relationship with my girlfriend. I like the bar scene. Helping others blow off some steam at a bar or lounge after work is a great stress reliever. I get along with people very well and the idea of bartending is appealing. I also work full time. What are the pros and cons of being "certified"? or is that ranking just a term? I have no expierence as bartender, but there are ads saying they are willing to teach. Really need someone in the business for a while, not just an opinon. Can you help? Thank you!

If you have a chance to get hired at the local bar just go ahead and don't worry about certification, either way most of the income is tips, salary as you probably know is very little with or without the certificate, luck..☺

I would think that being certified gives you an edge, because you have already been trained in multiple drink making.
my husband was a bartender and they trained him on the job.
I guess it depends on the establishment, some will train some won't.
