I'm thinking about selling my old XBOX and getting a new 360. I'm interested in still being able to play Ninja Gaidan, KotOR, Max Payne, MK, and Halo. I won't have XBOX live, but will I still be able to play those games(which I own) in the new system?

The Xbox 360 plays some original Xbox games. Microsoft releases backwards compatibility updates every so often, adding more games to the list. You can view the list at: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardcompatibilitygameslist.htm

You need 3 things: 1) An Xbox game that is on the backward compatible list, which you can find on the official website. 2) An Xbox 360 console with a hard drive (not the 4 GB or Arcade Xbox 360's). You can buy a hard drive separately. 3) Connect online with Xbox live and update the Xbox 360 with a small patch that allows for that game to play. The new Xbox 360 S might not need this, though. Anyway, you can download on the computer and plug it with a USB drive. Again check the official Xbox website.

microsoft has moved to quash fears from consumers that old Xbox console games would not be playable on the company's new Xbox 360 machines.

One of the men in charge of the Xbox, Peter Moore, had seemed to suggest that this compatibility would be stopped during an interview.

"Nobody is concerned anymore about backwards compatibility. We under promised and over delivered on that. I'm just stunned that we have hundreds of games that are backwards compatible," he told UK games site Kikizo.

"More are coming, but at some point, you just go, there's enough, let's move on, or people aren't as worried about a game being backwards compatible."

But now Microsoft has clarified the remarks by Mr Moore by making it clear that Xbox games will continue to play on the Xbox 360 next generation console.

On a blog by employees, Microsoft said that it was "not done yet" in terms of producing compatible games.

Currently, over two hundred Xbox games are compatible with the Xbox 360.
cheers.

Xbox 360's with the official xbox360 hard drive included have an emulator that allows over 300 xbox games to be played on the xbox360 system. This model starts at 399.99$ compared to the base model (without a hard-drive or reverse-compatability) of 299.99$

Yes all new software is mostly always made with backwards capability... meaning it plays anything from its system and lower... now if you try something new in an older system like xbox 360 game in an xbox obviously it wont work... hence why people play playstation games on playstation 2's
