"Pack the bags- we're going on a guilt trip!"

I read a few books by David Viscott and he had some great tactics for this. You can draw people out with kind questions to find out why they are trying to manipulate. It can be a delicate conversation because it's almost always someone you care about.
For example, you can ask outright "Are you trying to make me feel guilty?" Most people backpedal from this. Yet it's a simple question, you can't be blamed for asking nicely.
My father got a load of this from his family; my parents both resented it so I don't get any of it from them. What a stroke of luck.
If you do the right thing, how are anyone try this?

Yeah, and I think it's time to book a new itinerary. This last trip has been going on for too many years.

No, but I do have someone in my life that that seems to be her fulltime job. Thankfully I'm a Jewish Mother, I give guilt trips, I don't take them ;)
