Many Puritans emigrated to North America in the 1620-1640s because they believed that the Church of England was beyond reform. However, most Puritans in both England and New England were non-separatists. They continued to profess their allegiance to the Church of England despite their dissent from Church leadership and practices.

Most of the Puritans who emigrated settled in the New England area. However, the Great Migration of Puritans was relatively short-lived and not as large as is often believed.[1] It began in earnest in 1629 with the founding of the Massachusetts Bay Colony and ended in 1642 with the start of the English Civil War when King Charles I effectively shut off emigration to the colonies. From 1629 through 1643 approximately 21,000 Puritans emigrated to New England,[2]. This is actually far less than the number of British citizens who emigrated to Ireland, Canada, and the Caribbean during this time

Puritans were those that had lived inEngland but opposed the beliefs of the Church of England, they were punished harshily for such rebellious beliefs and therefore a group of them arrived in U.S They established their colonies in New England and believed that their government was the government of Europe. Slowly and steadily they began to produce their own goods and literature, as the English government did not recognize them. When, somewher in the 1700;s I believe, the English govt. came to the revelation that America could be used as a major source of goods they began to exploit it, sending its troops there and forcing the colonists to house them and taxing various products such as tea heavily. That was when the colonists realized that they were being taken advantage of and revolted. The decleration of independence was written by Jefferson and the revolutionary war took place. The colonists achieved their own country and produced a wide array of succesful poets, authors, etc. including especially Anne Bradstreet, William Wordsworth, Edward Cumming and later on Emerson and his Emersonian ideals followed by Edgar Allen Poe and the "dark poet" entity.
