Brilliant! Now if everyone who meets the qualifications for president could be allowed to be heard. I've got it! Eliminate the two party system and allow politicians who use their brains and not their money a chance at the presidency.

First of all, the new president IS the one who receives the most votes, albeit 'electoral' votes rather than votes from the general population.
The congresses have failed to update the system because it allows them to concentrate their efforts on the most important areas in each election... Florida in 2000 and Ohio in '04.
Let us remember it works both ways. Though Bush won the presidency in 2000 while losing the popular vote, if Kerry won in '04 it would have been exactly the same way. Kerry lost the national popular vote by several million, but had he merely 40,000 more votes in Ohio he would have became president (assuming the republican leadership in that state didn't rig it).

Our president did in the last election! He won the popular vote (those actual votes by the people) and he won the electorial vote. Yes you are a genious! In most cases the president only wins by electorial votes and your idea is one that many people including me would like to see!

As in most problems, there are two sides. The Founding Fathers felt that the electoral college would give small states a greater voice in choosing a President and all of those chosen would not just come from large population states. Seriously, I think you better concentrate on your own country, no offense.

Electorial college system ensure small states, with fewer people, would havea greater voice in choosing the Prez. For example, if the electorial college were elimated and we had the "popular" vote. the combined votes of California, Texas, and NewYork are all that would be needed to pick the next Prez....no other states need vote since all thier votes combined wouldn't equal the big 3 states.

The Electoral college is brilliant. Why aren't the people griping about the electoral college upset that California and Montana both get two votes in the Senate? Its the same principle.

Do you mean legally, without the help of his brother? Clearly that idea went away along with free elections.
