There are 76 million baby boomers out there. If age discrimination is pervasive as many articles say, could ageism in the workplace potentially have a negative effect on the economy?

Ageism is indeed a huge problem, but my gut feeling is that it is going to get better. The laws are starting to change (in my area at least), which are making it harder and harder for people to be bumped off to the side merely because of age. The Government knows that it will be extremely difficult to support all those people on its programs, so actions are being taken to enable people to stay working at decent jobs longer.

As all thing there are both negative and positive and the same goes with ageism.

The positive is some time's you just need new blood and to get out of some ruts. This is usually do to a culture that is developed by a person or a Bord of directors ect.

The negative is there is a lot of good talent that is going out the door just because of age. Also because of ageism i think more older workers are not as willing to step out on there own.

As for me the one thing i have notice is that older workers are usually very dedicated and have some good wisdom to share. Also there are current on the computer skills and typing they as a whole are a lot better spellers and editors.

Yes, because it takes older skilled workers out of the workplace. So we lose their skill, they lose money and go on social security which is a bite in the ***.
