The line can be taken in various ways, depending on which viewer is interpreting it. Here are a few examples...
1. What is feels like to be dumped at the altar
2. What it feels like to have a broken heart
3. What love feels like (to willingly accept "humiliation" because you love someone)
4. What it feels like to sacrifice your heart for someone else's happiness
5. What it feels like to lose the one you love

My personal belief is that the line encompasses *all* of that.

I'm guessing he means "This is what it feels like to have a broken heart" or to be dumped.

He didn't know what it was like to love someone and then have them dump you.

He ment...this is what it feels like when you love someone....

She was being honest with him about giving her heart away once and never getting it back....what he saw in her eyes then...that was love!!

He probably hasn't been dumped before.
