My friend has a baby with a girl who has left him but she is still living in the house. She has been on the council tax for 2 years. The baby is 1. She doesnt work or have any benefits, she wont go to the housing to get housed. He wants to sell but she wont go to her mums. Is she entitled to half the house once its sold, whats his rights? She has another child by another man also.

He should speak to the Citizens Advice Bureau. As far as I know, unless the house is in joint names or she can prove a significant financial contribution to the upkeep, she is only entitled to maintenance for the child if they are not married.

In the states the only rights she would have would be the right for child support for the child. As long as she is not on the deed or the mortgage she would have no rights to the house since there was no marriage. Your friend can call a real estate professional who would advise him of the UK law.
