You just put whatever you want on it into iTunes and import it from there. You don't have to BUY music from iTunes, if that's what you mean.

I think it requires Windows Xp.
Win98/me wont work.
You may need to download the software from their site rather than use the disk that came with it.
It is very poorly written in terms of useability, and there is no explanation of how to use it.
Ask your friends, and do some google searches to help get going.
You can upload MP3s from your collection, or from ITunes.
First, you copy your music from your collection ( PC, CD, DVD etc), into the IPOD library area ( on your PC) created with the software installation.
Then you can use the software to upload it to your player.
I forget, but the first time after software installation, the player will not be recognized ( as player or disk space), until you run some initilization procedure, which wipes out the memory on the player. ( one player one PC).
The player will only work with one PC. If you take your IPOD to another computer, it wont work. One IPOD, one PC.
Restrictive.
If you do want to use the player with another computer, you need wipe it out, and start over. So backup your music onto CD/DVD, and copy them to the new computer. Then wipe the player, and upload again.
Once music is uploaded to the player, you cannot download it to the PC. They dont want you to go to a friends house, and download all your music to them for free.
You can partition part of the players memory as disk space, and another part as music/video. Im pretty sure there isnt restriction on the section partitioned as disk space, but you can only delete music files from the player section, cant download.
You cant play music from the disk space area.
BTW: The smaller players are much more durable than the larger units that have harddisks. You are much more likely to cary around a lighweight, nearly indestructable 2Gig Nano, than a larger hard disk based unit.

you can download your songs videos and fotos to your music library on itunes (regardless of the source) and then passing them to your ipod, otherwise it will not play them but only store them
PS: you do that by clicking "add to my library" or something like that once on itunes on the file thing i think
