hi,I'm brett1,
I have just returned home to australia last year after living and working in the USA for approx, 9yr's. even though my wife is an american it is not an easy process, if you want to do it legally of course, when I think back now to 1997 when we immigrated, it's alot of work, I'm not trying to put you off, but it isn't something that you just decide to do off the cuff. I remember that I started the paperwork process in March of 97' then in May after police checks and health checks (aids etc,,,,) we had to go to Sydney from Brisbane for an interview with the US consulate and pay in US dollors around $600.00 for the interview process, and I was lucky enough to have a job lined up for me upon arrival,( i'm a plumber ) then inlate june my temporary visa arrived and we flew out to the usa on the 10th of Sept'. after selling everything we owned so when we got there we had money to live and buy a car plus set up house, also we had stuff like my plumbing tools coming over by ship( more money!!!!). But at the end of the day I liked the US a great deal and we may go back after 10 or so years back here in australia after I finish studying. It may be a bit cheaper to travel from the UK, as there are quite a few people I met in Florida from England and they had just arrived as I had. Your 1st step is to get passports and speak to the US Consulate and they will give you the application number of the documents that you will need to have filled out and off you go into what can be a daunting process, but if you really want to do it, get organised and show committment and go for it, but New York can be very expensive especially with 3 kids, we did'nt have any so that saved us some money and at the end of it all if you like to travel you won't regret it.

Hmm...tough. I wouldn't go to New York if I were you. If you want a very low crime rate and stuff, I suggest Maine. Some places you go it's beautiful because you can see the coast. I know because my Uncle and Aunt live there. To be exact Boothbay Harbor. They'll probly have the best fudge you've ever eaten, lol. I live in Pennsylvania, pretty low crime rate here. Best of luck to you!

Maybe you should do an exchange program through your school. You could spend some quality time in the USA and learn so much.
If your nice people, you could consider the Northwest part of the USA. Also, our weather is more like the weather in London.

If you don't have a little bit of money you are not going to be able to pay rent. Anywhere nice in NYC you need some money at least 2G a month. At least
