Why not? I'm sure they can do a job just as well as everybody else.

Why are they not allowed in the military. I don't care whether or not he/she is gay or not. If they want to enlist to serve their country, let them (I've seen news reports talking about thousands of homosexuals who would sign up in a heartbeat if the military openly allowed them.) Also, the military isn't exactly at full operating capacity right now. If they lifted the ban, they might get some more soldiers.

Why is the U.S. Government, out of all people, discriminating against homosexuals for signing up in the military? I'm pretty sure there's a couple places in those historical documents, as well as federal law, which says that everybody is equal, and that nobody shall be discriminated against for any reason whatsoever.

So the government can't even hold up these BASIC rights, but private companies, and everyday citizens do? When did the government become exempt from their own laws? There is NO REAL reason the military bans homosexuals... they just do, and obvious to the population, but not to the military, it's wrong.

Well, first off there is the problem that there's no evidence that he was gay, not even in the regular "Greek" way of being gay, ie. a twent or thirty-something claiming a teenage boy to "sponsor". Secondly, he 'was' a conqueror, and, well, the modern world doesn't look well on those.

Thirdly, you can only think of one gay military leader? And he probably wasn't even really gay? You should have brought up the Spartans, because they were brilliant fighters and much more cool with adult homosexuality than their Athenian counterparts.

Sure, Goldwater once said "you don't need to be straight to be in the army, you just need to shoot straight". Also, in Alexander's the Great time there was once a small army of men who were gay. I saw it last year on the history channel. The men were a small group of fighters who lived on the forest and they were pretty good in combat.

eh... who knows...

gay seems to be very feminine concept in today's society... but when you take a peek back at history... some of those legends of warfare may have "played on the other side"...

I don't think the idea should be discarded...

leadership should be based on qualifications and ability, no matter who it is...

I would rather have Alexander the great than rummy leading a war I was fighting in...

What the hell does being gay have to do with waging war?

BeachBum, You couldn't be further off the mark. Quick fact check.

Guys have a disagreement. A couple punches get thrown, a few beers get consumed, life is good.

Girls have a disagreement. Cars get keyed, rumors get spread. Vindictiveness reigns, and a grudge is held for years and years and years. If we only allowed female leaders, We'd still be at war with Japan, Britain, Mexico, Spain...... you get the point.
