I currently have Earthlink dial up and the Verizon DSL service for 19.99 a month that just came out isn't available in my area. I'm totally at a loss trying to find high speed internet that will be affordable to me. I would be so grateful if someone could just help lead me in the right direction so I can get up to speed. My computer just takes forever to load pages.

I don't understand why everybody thinks rail systems are the only means of transportation that is "subsidized by the government." Look at the HUGE amounts of federal money that are poured into the building and maintenance of streets and highways, highway bridges, the Interstate Highway system, airports, air navigation systems, waterways, ports, levees, and drawbridges. The government subsidizes highways, cars, and trucks to a much, much greater extent than it ever has supported railroads. And yet the conservative misinformation machine has spent the last 100 years working to make sure people notice when rail systems get government money but don't notice the government money that goes into the highway, car and truck, and oil supply systems. It's just a huge racket. And conservative politicians do it because they work for rich influential people who DO NOT have the nation's best interest at heart. This includes the oil companies, auto manufacturers, and highway building contractors, for a start, and many other fat cats that are less visible but just as quick to steal from the taxpayers. The truth--when you shut the mouths of the foolish conservative talkers--is that rail systems cost a fraction of the cost of highways, are Much, Much easier on the environment, and provide far safer and more pleasant travel for all Americans. The cost to the taxpayers of running the railroads is a fraction of the cost of operating highways and bailing out the car and truck manufacturers. So the idea that rail systems are not cost effective is just political bologna, and today would be as good a day as any to write your congresspersons and urge them to get behind the new railroad building initiatives. It's the best way to the future for us all. Sure, a lot of Americans would rather not sit beside somebody they don't know. But you miss a lot of the best things in life by being too independent and individualistic. Take a train trip somewhere--you'll love it, and you'll like the people you meet.

You know all those search boxes on the page top? Well ISP stands for Internet Service Provider. Search the web, call the 800 numbers and see who is out there in your particular area. Coyote hunts well.

Get ISDN to double your connection speed.
If you want a reasonable connection speed however, I suggest you look into getting a satellite uplink. ...Though this may exceed your budget limits.
