I believe, after having 6 kids, that nature will take its course. I believe a woman should never, ever jeopardize her baby by forcing its birth. Anybody else agree? Keep in mind that I'm a nurse as well. I've seen babies with respiratory distress because of premature births. Not a pretty thing.

I'm not talking about medically inducing. There's many reasons for medically inducing. I'm talking about woman that drink castor oil, drive over speed bumps (I knew one), and do other crazy things. Medically inducing is 100% understandable especially for women with high blood pressure, diabetes, bleeding etc...

I was induced with both of my children because I HAD to be. I had toxemia with my first and Placenta Abruptio with my second. My first child was induced after being 5 days overdue and my second was induced after being a week overdue. Other than induction being medically necessary, I don't agree with it. I don't get why any pregnant woman would drink Castor oil; all it does is give them diarrhea which will cause contractions. I don't know about you but there is no way in hell I would want to have diarrhea while one the delivery table. As far as woman being medically induced for convenience, it's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard of. Why would any woman WANT to go through that? I had my first child after being induced for 36 hours and then 26 with my second. I don't get how labors that last that long are "more convenient." With my first child, my contractions were 3 minutes apart when I arrived at the hospital. Once they had the monitors hooked up to me, the contractions were 1 minute apart. I hope to GOD I NEVER have to be induced again. I'll admit, it did save my youngest daughter's life; but if it is unnecessary, I'll pass.

I dont think its selfish if it is a life or death situation. I know that it is not good to keep a baby in you for to much longer after there due date, so if the doctor wants to induce I am all for it my neice and her baby both almost died due to her being pregnant to long
Also my mom would be dead and so would I if she did not have me when she did I came a month early my mom had been bleeding alot and did a c-section on her. It would been pointless if the both of us were dead I am very greatful that they were able to save the both of us
Oh you mean self induce to me that is selfish let the baby come when he or she comes. I do think it is selfish because they are so excited that they are not looking at what is best for baby the closer you are to your due date the better why would you want to rush the babies development. I know they say it is safe after 35 weeks but there is a reason why a pregnancy is 40 weeks and I wouldnt not want my baby to come a moment to early even though you are excited to meet this person just wait

Its not good for a mother to want to induce labor if its too early or going to jeopardize the baby in any way, but If she is after 38 weeks I think its ok, if its needed, or in my case I would like to (my 4th baby) because I have no family where I live and my husband works in the oil field and is gone for 3 to 6 weeks at a time and I dont want to be alone during child birth. I was induced with my 2nd also, but I was 40 weeks and my doctor sent me to the hospital for it straight fromthe office. But I really cant see being alone . I really want my husband here and he wants to be here too. Maybe some may think thats selfish, but to me it would be scary alone. I need somekind of support from someone I love. I would rather go into labor naturally though. but dont know. Ok read what you said, no that kind of inducing is crazy....I do have high blood pressure so that is a factor anyways

i believe that inducing labor un naturally is bad. I think if the baby is not ready to come out, then it is not time yet. After all we now know about early birth and labor induction I can't believe it is still done. Also the castor oil thing, well I think that needs to be outlawed. it is gross. I think the only things that should be allowed to start labor are as followed:
1. Naturally
2. Walking
3. sex
That is all I will ever use. That is what is natural and won't cause my babys harm.

I also have six children :)
I was induced with my youngest child due to an amnionic fluid level of 4 and a BPP score of 8, and she wasn't moving. Not pretty. She wasn't doing well in utero, so I readily agreed to an induction. I believe I had a pretty good reason to induce. My induction actually led to a crash c-section because of cord prolapse.
I don't know if I would call it "selfish" but I find the trend of inducing labor for convenience to be disturbing. I heard of women inducing to avoid having a baby of a certain astrological sign or because the doctor was going on vacation. To me, these aren't good reasons to risk a newborn's health.
It is usually better to wait for nature to take its course, but there are compelling medical reasons to induce as well.

me i agree with you. if there is no real medical reason yes it is really selfish of both doctors and mothers... both are responsible for this rush. its also unhealthy for mothers as the extra use of drugs can be harmful depending on what is used. the USA has the second worst new born death rate in developed countries... most of these babies are born early so why on earth would be make more of these babies born early?! sure most of the time its safe and about 2/3 of the time it works out well... but 1/3 end in c-sections (which could have probably been avoided if mom and doc just waited). but yeah its a risk a foolish unnecessary risk. everyone always talks about how they want to do the best things for their kids and how much they love them.... i don't get why they would evicted them from the womb with out medical reason before their time, why many women refuse to breastfeed when we all know its the best for baby...don't people want to do whats best for their kids?! i don't get it either. right up there with people that smoke around children... don't get it.

I am a nursing student. I can not believe why some of these women would want to induce labor. I see it as a very selfishly motivated act. Your body will go into labor when the time is right. If you are not in labor the baby is not ready to come. One day in the womb can buy a LOT of time for baby development. People DON'T seem to get it.

IF you have indeed given birth to 6 children then you would know that drinking castor oil does NOT induce labor and neither does driving over speed bumps. Those are nothing but old wive's tales and young gullible misinformed women tend to beleive in them.

i might in no way recommend inducing labour till now than 37 weeks, till there became into an exceedingly sound scientific clarification for the two mom or baby. even with the undeniable fact that - and please do no longer think of i pass for sympathy or 'woe-is'me' like a prior answer stated - my pregnancies weren't the exciting, magical time that a brilliant sort of ladies human beings journey. I broke my pelvis as an adolescent, and mutually as pregnant with my first baby this brought about me to advance SPD. This difficulty have been given so severe I had to apply crutches and could no longer even get on and off the rest room on my very own. regrettably it became into even worse in my 2nd being pregnant, and became into almost mattress-sure for the final 10 weeks. So i visit comfortably admit to wanting my pregancies to end as quickly because it became into secure, and almost begged my midwife to do something to assist me from 37 weeks. yet she does not, and that i finished up being previous due with the two toddlers. So i won't be able to blame some women human beings for wanting it to be over with, yet so a approaches as i'm worried it would nicely be the midwife or usual practitioner that makes a decision no count number if that's secure to set off labour, no longer the mum. they're those with scientific training in spite of everything. with the aid of fact

I agree 110%. Those little apples fall off the tree naturally when they are ripe. Inducing for the convenience of either parent, or the doctor's schedule is wrong wrong wrong. It's not nice too fool with mother nature. If there's truly a MEDICAL reason for it, then yes.
