What do you think of this Kanye West quote?

Roy Innis, National Chairman of CORE, is alarmed and concerned about a quote by Kanye West in the December 2006 issue of Essence Magazine. In the issue, West is quoted as saying,

“If it wasn’t for race mixing there’d be no video girls. Me and most of our friends like mutts a lot. Yeah, in the hood they call ‘em mutts”.

I haven't heard much of anything uttered by Kanye West that wasn't offensive in some way. Whether it's statement like that, him comparing himself to Jesus Christ or just him talking in general, it's all garbage. The guy needs a reality check.

Only ignorant people calls people of mix origins "mutts".
If I was of two racial background parents, I would prefer the word "mixed" myself. (But then, we are all mixed with something if you think about it.)
And, no, not all video girls are "mutts". There are some video girls who are dark and who are light skinned and who are Asian and who are just white Caucasian.
Now, here is a better question. If Kanye met a woman that was mixed and fell in love with her, would he calll her a "mutt"? Would he like it if someone called his girl that? What happens if he fell truly in love with a non-African-American woman, let's say she was from Ireland or a girl from Hong Kong and had a child with her. Would he like his little girl or boy being called a "mutt" like if they were some freaking dog? I do not think so. Kanye should keep making hits, producing, touring and calm down with the arrogance, just a notch.

He is a hypocrite. I used to love kanye because of his lyrical wit and his clever puns, but now he is just ruining himself. If you look at my questions asked on yahoo, you'll see that a lot of them relate to K. West. He is a hypocrite becuase he flaunts his wealth and talks about how poor people have it so bad, he is a rascist himself because of how his songs indicate that the white men hold em' down and how nixon planted cocaine in the ghetto and how bush let iraq get anthrax, he is self-righteous, he claims that screwing girls, smoking weed, basically living a decadent life is the ideal way, even though he rights (erhem i mean co-writes or got someone to ghostwrite "jesus walks") and he lets Rolling Stone magazine take a picture of him getting cruxified symbolizing that he believes he is the messiah. He's an ignorant asswipe. Also about the MTV Europe awards, and the one awards show where he threw a tantrum, he is basically being the biggest hypocrite. Christianity emphasizes humility, and in that department, kanyeasy is measly. I seriously think we should publicly condemn him as a yahoo community. He's so good at rapping and saying ****, but he's so multifaced. He needs to stick to one persona. Either be cocky, self-righteous, immoral, not humble, rap about hoes and **** or be the direct opposite and start giving a lil. Mutts are mulattos, which is believed to be part french and african america descent i believe. Essentially it is mixed. About the quote, if that is his personal conviction, so be it, he'll say we need to stop calling people GAY one day, then the next he'll be in the studio sayin, i ain't no gay dude, but i do consider myself handsome dude

Mulatto. Mutt. Somewhat similar in their consonance. I think Roy Innis should mind his own business. A lot of people have opinions that aren't politically correct, but a person can't change what they believe just because everyone else doesn't approve of it. Individuality would go out of the window, and we all agree that wouldn't be a good thing. Although sometimes, it is nice to have guidelines so things aren't chaos.

As a biracial woman, I am deeply offended by Kanye's comment. However, I do understand that he only exercised his right to speak freely. It is my wish, one that I may never live to see, that people, not JUST celebrities, but people as a whole, will show more respect and consideration toward others. It is never clear who exactly will be offended by what we say or do until it is too late. As an activist, I will no longer support Kanye West in any way, shape, or form, but I want others, whether offended by this or not, to realize that he is not the first to single out and offend a large group of people, and he certainly will not be the last.

He shouldn't have referred to them as, "mutts". However, the majority of video girls are light-skinned with long hair. It's obvious by looking at their features, they are of mixed heritage. So, he's got a point there.

I think first of all Kanye really messed up with this comment. Find me some one that aint "Mixed" with something!

I also think its very ignorant to think that just because someone who has light skin and better hair than yours is "obviously" mixed.

Again he puts his foot in his mouth, he's just an idiot period. If it was a white person that said what he said, all hell would have broken loose; so it's very disgusting of what he said about biracial females.
